Almost 10

A lot has happened since my last post. I have traveled to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and currently I am back home in Fairbanks. Let's start with the beginning Los Angeles well not at all what I expected. I really in fact did not enjoy the city itself more the people. It was quite a spontanous trip because I made my reservation two days before I traveled. Southwest pulled through again! I visited a friend I had not seen in about eight years..that was great. Really it was! Well let me just sum up LA in one word from a small town girl..OVERWHELMING! That need for space never really hit me until day two of six lanes deep of traffic that "wasn't" bad. OH I experienced hot yoga for the first time. It was an hour and a half of hot, smelly, sticky yoga. I did things I never thought I could! If it didn't stink so bad it might be something I would look into on a regular basis. Getting toxins out of the body was a like being hung over and sore all at the same time. So Vegas..hmm can't reveal too much about it...haha. Let me just say I had a blast! One of the best trips i've ever had there. I didn't lose too much money partied, on top of the Palms on Halloween night. I saw the craziest costumes I have ever seen in my life! People on stilts, crazy things that i'll never see again i'm sure. We had a good crew of Alaskan's and I have yet to be disappointed with all the Alaskan crew i've been meeting in the lower 48. So this brings be back home to Fairbanks, the first night I arrive it is a brisk -25 below zero. GREAT, all my family and friends inform me that this day has been the coldest day all winter, Oh the joys of Fairbanks Alaska in the middle of winter.
Well more to come when I experience it!

The worst beer..the best time

It at started on a hot Sacramento day, when two kids drove to San Fran to see the sights, and it ended two days later with much less money in our pockets, and a stomach full of Cancun. (Mexican food from a taquireta

The first obstacle was feeding the troll under the bridge (AKA the toll bridge) That troll needed four dollars, what a greedy goblin. Not knowing this almost cost us a $50 dollar ticket! Frantically searching for loose change, we were 10 cents over four dollars, the troll was fed and now I know better. There is probably a troll in large cities, so watch out.

Next was parking in the hills of San Fran, no so easy in a Dodge Dakota. After what seemed like hours but was only minuets a nice downhill spot presented itself and the truck was parked for the whole weekend. Than after settling down in my cousins immaculate apartment the party began.

We started off with a tour of the place and than after our first trip to Cancun (the delicious Mexican place) the largest most amazingly massive quesadilla was in my belly. So large I had to share the two it came with, $6.00 well spent. We headed to the San Fran Giants baseball game.

The journey there was something else getting onto the public transit the BART, was confusing to a newbie. So many times you needed to use the card, and had no idea where you are going as well, oh well! So to the game, how magical you just feel this camaraderie screaming @ another team with thousands of other people. "Manny [Ramirez] you dreads have lice in them!"
I shouted this several times, and the cute grip of little kids in front of us trying to start chants like "lets go San Fran!" and other mildly inappropriate things that made us laugh. Oh did I mention the gathering of us (the 6 of us) were all Alaskan!

Knowing that you have this sense of security and ease, and of course automatically so many things in common. I recall this statement sometime in this night "HEY lets go to KJ's! YEAH and Beat up somebody!" haha, not is it the funny nuisances of an Alaskan city but its the most basic things. For example enjoying the simple things in life, not worrying about what car you drive or what brand of clothes you are wearing. A feeling only can be described as a calm?
Not sure if you don't know it, can't explain it. Anyhow after that, we went out to a bar, and had a dance party of our own.

The next day Casey and I ventured out into the streets of San Fran on our own. Walking for many, many miles. Thinking about getting a cab, but opted to see the small things and not miss out on them. We made it to downtown and took a cab to GG, (Golden Gate Park) and found a nice Thai place to eat. It rained and we didn't even mind, it felt good. We also found the SSFD (San Fran Fire Department) Casey was stoked, and as all things we found beer. Let me tell you it was HORRIBLE! Probably the worst beer I've ever had in my life, but in comparison of the whole weekend it was the best of times.

The Golden State

Psychic spies from China
Try to steal your mind's elation
Little girls from Sweden
Dream of silver screen quotations
And if you want these kind of dreams
It's Californication ....

Why yes it is courtesy of RHCP. Well California is not at all what I have imagined in my head. I pretty much live in a retirement community. This is good for two reasons, geriatrics are on the quiet side, and the crime rate is relatively low. So that's a good start right? Well the first thing I did after flying in and having a nice conversation with an older couple (this my friends is what I should have picked up on foreshadowing) was eat at the most delicious burger joint, In-And-Out. Then like a yuppie 20 something I got a bed at Ikea. I have ventured the supergiant store once before in Minneapolis and it is just as confusing each time. Lets see, I went on a glorious outing to the Eldorado Nat. Forest..and I was very impressed, there are some reasons why people dig this place. Oh and did I mention today i'm buying tickets to see Metallica? yeaw...More adventures to come...thanks for stopping by.

In her element...for now.

Hello all!  Welcome to my blog, I  have named it an Alaskan outside her element because that is exactly what I am, and what i'll be doing, going outside of my comfort zone. I am moving in six days to the wonderful state/nation of California. The state where I am not allowed to have ninja stars, or drive while using a cell phone. All for a good cause I'm sure...I am moving to the pleasant town called Citrus Heights. www.citrusheights.net where I will be most likely working at a gym, while trying to pursue my dream of becoming a journalist. It's a tough road and frankly right now my biggest fear is that i'll come down with the swine flu..and I don't have insurance. (not) Well that's all for now, thanks for joining me i'll be sure and update, Thanks for Stopping By.
